William R. “Bill” Bergaus, age 86, of Winona, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living in Winona.
He was born on May 20, 1932, in Winona, to Robert and Anna (Czaplewski) Bergaus, and was employed for many years as a custodian for Cytec-Fiberite in Winona.
Bill was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka where he served as an usher, and also helped with the annual fall festival. Throughout his life, Bill was an active volunteer with the Winona Friendship Center, United Way, YMCA, and Winona Volunteer Services. He also enjoyed being a greeter at Winona Senior High School, and he visited patients at Lake Winona Manor. In recognition of his volunteer work, Bill was awarded the Ageless Hero Community Involvement Award, the United Way Award, and he was named employee of the month at Fiberite. He also won first place at the Winona County Fair for his embroidered table cloths and pillow cases.
Bill is survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Raymond Gabrych.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Very Reverend Patrick Arens will officiate. Bill will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, or to the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
