Wilfred C. Schossow, of rural Rushford, MN, was a beloved great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and husband for his 95 years of life. Wilfred passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, one week shy of his 96th birthday, at Riverside Transitional Care Center in La Crosse, WI.
He was born on November 13, 1928, in Winona, to Edward and Anna (Anderson) Schossow, and was a graduate of Winona High School.
Wilfred and Gladys Haedtke were united in marriage on June 7, 1952, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Wilson. Together they enjoyed 71 years of marriage. Gladys preceded him in death on December 6, 2023. They were active members of Lewiston Church of the Brethren.
Wilfred served in the United States Army, stationed in Kentucky and Colorado. His time in the military brought Wilfred and Gladys long-lasting friendships and fond memories.
Wilfred was a dedicated farmer. He took great pride in cultivating the land, raising crops and livestock, and milking cows. The legacy Wilfred leaves his family is a life of resilience, hard work, care, and compassion.
Wilfred is lovingly survived by his children: Debra (Mike) Best, Kenneth Schossow, and Lori Evanson; grandchildren: Jennifer (Brian) Linse, Tyler Best, Jacob Best, Betsy (Michael) Nagel, Joseph (Courtney) Evanson, Kipp Schossow, and Megan Schossow; great-grandchildren: Kirin and Keaton Linse, Olivia and Adelynn Nagel, and Charlotte Evanson; sister-in-law: Shirley Schossow; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son-in-law: Donald Gronewold; and a brother, Allyn Schossow.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until the funeral service at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Lewiston Church of the Brethren. Gordon Hoffert and Jamie Risser will officiate. Wilfred will be laid to rest at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Wilson, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks memorials be directed to the Lewiston Church of the Brethren.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Schossow, Jennifer Linse, Tyler Best, Betsy Nagel, Jacob Best, Kipp Schossow, Joseph Evanson, and Megan Schossow.
