Wanda Lee Coan Crozier, 97, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona. She was born November 1, 1926, to Archa and Julia Taylor. She grew up with her siblings, Pansy, Loraine and Paul in Decatur, IL. In 1945, she married Robert Homer Coan, also of Decatur. They had two children, Vickie and Wesley. The family lived throughout the Midwest until Robert’s untimely death in 1984.
In 1993, Wanda remarried family friend and widower John Crozier, and they lived at the home they shared in Winona, MN, until his passing in 2011. Ever the capable and independent woman, Wanda moved into an apartment at Willowbrook Cooperative until her need for more support brought her to Callista Court, where she remained until her final days at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona.
Some of Wanda’s favorite activities included shopping, visiting with family, and going out to lunch. She loved arranging artificial flowers for the local hospitals, other organizations, and her own assisted living facility; her arrangements beautified communal spaces and brightened resident’s day. On Wanda’s best and worst days, she was touching up her hair, adding a bit of perfume, and offering fashion compliments and makeup tips to others.
Throughout her life, our family has taken great joy in listening to her amazing stories, including those of her grandmother who crossed Kansas in a covered wagon, and a tale of her learning to drive her father’s Model T Ford.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, as well as her husbands, Robert Coan and John “Jack” Crozier. She is survived by her children: Vickie (Ron Walley) of Holmen, WI, and Wesley (Brenda) Coan of Wabasha, MN; as well as her grandchildren: Jesse Ohlhauser, Mindy (Ian Corey) of Homer, Lindsey (Kevin Schubert) of Galesville, WI, Kristi (Christopher Torgerud) of Rushford and Emily (Justin Steiner) of Minneapolis, Kayla (Kaleb Bray) of Pepin, WI; and her great-grandchildren: Makayla, Eva, Owen, Tayvin, Halle, Maya, Willow and Levi.
In lieu of fresh flowers, those wishing to honor Wanda’s memory consider a donation to Benedictine Communities of Winona. Our family would like to thank the staff of Callista Court and Benedictine – St. Anne for the compassionate care they have provided while our mother and grandmother was a resident with them.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the funeral service at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 22, 2024, in the Chapel at Benedictine – St. Anne, 1347 W. Broadway, Winona. Chaplain Dennis Kunkel will officiate. Wanda will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona.
