Stephen M. Wojciechowski

Stephen Michael Wojciechowski, age 75, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

He was born on December 28, 1949, in Winona, to Harry and Marcella (Bambenek) Wojciechowski. He spent most of his early years at Faribault State Hospital, until returning to Winona in 1993 under the care of Home and Community Options for over 30 years. His quality of life was so good that he didn’t want to leave. But, the Lord’s call was stronger.

Stephen was a true cowboy at heart. He loved Roy Rogers. He loved his music and his movies. We are hoping that Roy was among the many people to welcome him to his heavenly home. Stephen loved sitting on the porch on a warm summer day and enjoying the sun shining on him. He liked to recite the lines of nursery rhymes, as his mother read them to him when he was a baby. His favorites were “Little Boy Blue” and “Little Bo Peep”. He loved cookies and cereal, requesting them all the time. He also loved circus peanuts and corn curls. If he was in control of the television, it was M*A*S*H or Gomer Pyle.

A lot of Hail Mary’s were said by him, and he loved it when the staff at 502 sang Jingle Bells. He loved to listen to Frank Sinatra (thanks mom!), Louis Armstrong, and Bing Crosby. His first music love was Polkas (thanks dad!), but that was eventually overshadowed by cowboy songs. He loved relaxing in the bathtub, getting his cheeks massaged, and he loved a good head rub. He did, however, leave us with a burning question…what’s a “schneider”?

He was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

Stephen is survived by his sisters: Mary, Fran, Chris, and Teresa; nephew, Andrew (Megan); great-niece, Lauren; great-nephew, Jack; as well as many cousins and friends, including his extended family at Home and Community Options, especially Mikahla and Destiny, and all his dedicated and caring caretakers. There are too many to mention, but you all know who we are talking about.

Our family gives a huge, special thanks to Home and Community Options for the quality of care shown to Stephen for the past 30+ years. The special care and love they give all their clients is superb. We are forever grateful for their love and concern for our brother and the many people they serve.

We would also like to thank Winona Area Hospice Services for their love and care shown to Stephen and our family through the end of his journey. They are truly “Angels of Mercy.”

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorials be directed to: Home and Community Options, Winona Area Hospice Services, or the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Very Reverend Patrick Arens will officiate. Stephen will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
