Shirley A. Sandvig, age 88, of Wilson, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in the comfort of her home on the family farm, while surrounded by her loving family in person and via phone.
She was born on August 25, 1935, in Yaeger’s Valley near Cochrane, WI, to Ione Misch, and was raised by her loving grandparents, Christ and Ella Adank. Shirley attended school in Rose Valley and Cochrane – Fountain City, and was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma, WI.
Shirley was united in marriage with Morris Sandvig on February 20, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma, and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2016.
Shirley was a very hard worker who loved nothing more than the farm and all her animals, and was a dedicated farmwife working alongside her husband, Morris. When she and Morris still milked cows, every cow and calf had a name, and even all the cats, geese, and other farm animals had names. At the age of 80, Shirley was able to visit a zoo for the first time.
She loved to cook, bake, and can for her family, and when she was younger, she even mailed cookies and pear bread to her brother and family for Christmas when stationed in Germany.
In her later years, she enjoyed feeding and watching “her” birds. She even spent her last days beside the window watching the birds and “Chippie” the chipmunk.
Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family, and she especially cherished the visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always felt so blessed to have her daughter and son-in-law living next door, which allowed her to be able to stay at home.
Shirley is lovingly survived by her daughter, Linda (Roger) Eide; grandchildren: Jason (Stevie) Eide, Jeremy (Mariah) Eide, Jamie (Heidi) Eide, and Jenni Eide; great-grandchildren: Emma, Natalie, Trent, Kelty, Shawn, Jakaylah, and Camden; sisters: Lois Kelley and Sharon Boelter; brothers: Bob (Jean) Wise and Neil (Cookie) Wise; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; her mother and grandparents; and brothers: Bernie, Kenny, and Dennis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Wilson. Pastor Jason Threlkeld will officiate. Shirley will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St. Winona, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 5:30 PM until 7 PM. Visitation will also be held at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Wilson on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10 AM until the time of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Roger, Jason, Jeremy, Jamie, and Trent Eide, and Scott Wells.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Wilson.
Shirley’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Dr. Traci Morken, and to Jenny, Stephanie, Michelle, and Mary Beth of Winona Health Hospice for the wonderful and loving care that she received.
