SHIRLEY MAE BUDNICK

Shirley Mae Budnick, 88, of Winona, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016. She left this world peacefully, in her home with loving family by her side.

Shirley was born August 14th, 1927 in Des Plains, IL to Myrtle (Ecke) and Frank Ciszak. She grew up in Winona during the depression with one older brother Delos (Sonny), and five fun loving sisters, Betty Bilder, Jane Michalowski, Joanne Thein, Bonnie Bambenek and Nancy Sheridan. Shirley liked to reminisce about her early years with her family and talked with great love and respect for her Mother Myrtle, who had a wonderful sense of humor and a twinkle in her eye.

During the war, Shirley liked to go out dancing with friends and, as rumor has it, was quite good at the jitterbug! But when the war ended and the 'boys were back in town', she met a handsome young sailor, fell in love and was married on October 21st, 1950, to Stanley F. Budnick. The Budnick's proceeded to have their own family of six children, stayed in the beautiful community of Winona and enjoyed life on the river and mushroom picking as favorite family activities. Shirley was a member of the Left Hander's club and liked her Friday night bowling league sponsored by Blanche's Tavern. She will long be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her love of good food and drink, the flowers she tended and the deep connection she shared with her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her children Judy Sobeck, Sue (Paul) Cravens, Bruce (Mary Schneider) Budnick, Robert (Kendra) Budnick and Penny (Dan) Beyers and her grandchildren Danielle and Paul Stalka, also Bradley and Blake Budnick. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son John and her husband (Stash) Stanley Budnick.

Visitation will be held at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Friday, July 8, 2016, from 4 pm until 7pm. A private family burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
