ROBERT JEROME FIX

Robert Jerome Fix, age 86, of Winona, went to his eternal rest on Friday, March 25, 2016.

He was born on January 10, 1930, in St. Charles, MN, to Anthony “Ted” and Mary (Verdick) Fix.  He moved to Winona with his family in 1933, and being of German and Polish descent, they were proud to call the East End their home.

As a youth, he attended W-K, St. Stan’s, and Cotter Schools, but he discovered that he was better suited for outdoor education such as hunting and fishing.  He often told the story of skipping school with a friend, shooting ducks, and then selling them to the Hot Fish Shop for spending money.

Robert served his country with the United States Air Force, being honorably discharged in 1949, and he went on to serve for six years in the Air Force Reserve.   He was united in marriage with Yvonne Bicknese on August 25, 1950, in Winona, and Yvonne preceded him in death on November 12, 2015.

His working career included the Peerless Chain Company, before moving on to Lake Center Switch, where he spent 40 years, retiring in 1994.

The outdoors was his passion.  He never met a body of water or a wooded area that he didn’t like.  Some of his fondest memories were his numerous fishing and big game hunting trips to the “Big Sky” State of Montana.  He enjoyed time spent with Yvonne on winter vacations to Arizona, Palm Springs, CA, and also attending various polka fests in the area and around the country.  The man loved to dance!

Robert was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the Eagles Club, and he was a life member of the American Legion.

Robert is lovingly survived by his son: Steven (Linda) Fix, Winona; daughter: Sharon (Dana Busch) Fix, Bloomington, MN; grandson: Nathan Fix, Chaska, MN; granddaughter: Stephanie (Jason) Baumann, Burnsville, MN; step-great-granddaughter: Sidney Baumann; sisters: Dolores Vondrashek, Winona; Pauline (Herb) Peter, Winona; Joan Squires, Buffalo City, WI; brother: Larry (Diane) Fix, Mankato, MN; sister-in-law: Violet Bicknese, Chatfield, MN;  as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; his parents; brother, Thomas Fix; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Bicknese, Ed Squires, and Gil Keeler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.  The Reverend Monsignor Richard M. Colletti will officiate.

Robert will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 4 PM until 6 PM, and at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.
