PETER A SCHROETKE

Peter Arvid Schroetke, 68, was born in Winona on November 28, 1946, and passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

The son of Arthur and Grace (Golt) Schroetke, Peter graduated from Winona Sr. High School in 1965. He entered the Navy after graduation and served until 1969 and then attended Winona State College.

On August 31, 1974, Peter was united in marriage with Pam Horstman at St. Mary’s Church in Fountain City. They had two daughters.

Peter worked at Canadian Pacific Railroad, retiring in 2007. After retiring he worked part-time at the YMCA. He was very involved with the Elks, having held various offices in the Winona local lodge and also on the state and national levels. He enjoyed golf until he could no longer play. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

Peter is survived by his wife, Pam; daughters, Melissa (Kris) Ruud, and Shannon Schroetke; grandchildren, Lauryn and Peyton Ruud; sisters, Kay (Joe) Kronebusch, Mic (Larry) Armitage, and Sandi (Jim) Wood; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson and brother-in-law, Bill (Kathy) Horstman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; and brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Peter will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.

Visitation will be held from 3 PM until 5 PM, on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where an Elks service will be held at 3:30 PM, and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:45 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Monday, October 26, 2015, from 10:30 AM until 11:15 AM.

Pallbearers will be: Dick Ledebuhr, Steve Tarras, Travis Armitage, Tyler Armitage, Mike Johnson, and Pat Johnson.
