Pauline “Polly” Jung, age 95, of La Crosse, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Speltz Estates Assisted Living Home in Lewiston, MN, with family by her side.
Polly was born on January 4, 1926, in Winona, to Edward and Johanna (Kunda) Koehler. She attended Cathedral School in Winona and graduated from Winona Senior High School on May 31, 1944.
Polly started working at the Oaks Supper Club while she was in high school, and this was a job she truly loved. Many years later, she worked in ticket sales at the Civic Center in La Crosse. She was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in La Crosse.
On July 14, 1945, Polly married Clifford Jung at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. Although they were not blessed with children of their own, their home was always a special place for their nieces and nephews who were all made to feel very much loved and welcomed with open arms.
Polly was a true fan of the Packers and the Brewers. She pulled the blinds closed, locked the doors, and didn’t answer the phone during game time! She attended Brewers games, and was thrilled to get to go to a Packers game with her nephews Larry, Dan, and Pat. She often talked of it with great excitement, and it was truly one her life’s highlights.
She was a great bowler – a sport which she shared with several of her sisters. She was famous for her dill pickles – she put up quart after quart after quart of them to the delight of her family and friends. She also made the best poppy seed bread, sauerkraut and pork, and German potato salad – no one ever went hungry at the Jung residence!
Polly made friends wherever she went and with people from all walks of life. She was always the life of the party, and we are all sure that she didn’t miss many!
Polly is survived by several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, and close friends. She asked that special mention be given to Tip and Sharon, Ione, and Linda.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford on November 10, 1994; her parents (ma and pa); siblings: Ruth, Dorothy, Irene, Bernice, Edward, Donald, Edna, Joanne, Robert, and James; several nephews; and by her very dear friend, Jeanette.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no funeral service. Polly will be laid to rest in a private burial at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in La Crosse.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Michele, and the wonderful staff at Speltz Estates for the loving care they gave to Polly. She was well-loved by them all, even though she was only there a few months. You gals made Polly feel like family, and we will always think of you as "her girls".
