Michael A. "Mike" Miller

Michael A. “Mike” Miller, age 70, of Winona, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus in Rochester, MN.

He was born on June 28, 1953, in Winona, to Nathaniel and Mary Ann (Prondzinski) Miller.   Growing up in Winona, Mike attended Cathedral Grade School, Cotter High School, and was a graduate of Winona Senior High School. 

Mike completed Law Enforcement training at Winona State University, and he went on to become a Deputy with the Winona County Sheriff’s Department from 1974 until his retirement in 2003.  During his career with the Sheriff’s Department, Mike received many honors and commendations for his service.

Mike will be remembered for his love of trout fishing at the hatchery in Lanesboro, being an avid reader, and as a firearms enthusiast who enjoyed instructing and teaching firearms classes and safety.  He was always willing to give to others, and to help in any way that he could.

Mike is survived by his son, Nathan (Rebecca) Miller; daughters Jennifer and Jackie; grandchildren: Emerson, Elliott, Alex, Matthew, and Katie; father, Nathaniel Miller; sisters: Lynn (Barry) Engrav and Lauri (Rick) Cowell; his former wife, Verliss Keller-Miller; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann; sister, Lisa; brother, Gregory; his grandparents; and a great-niece, Ava.

Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the funeral service at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.   Deacon Justin Green will officiate.   A luncheon and reception will be held at the funeral home following the service.  A family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be considered, and will be used to support local law enforcement.
