Michael Cada

Michael George Cada, age 75, of Winona, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at his home, with his wife and children by his side.

He was born on April 10, 1945, in La Crosse, WI, to George and Helen (Knapik) Cada, and was a graduate of Cotter High School.  Michael honorably served his country with the United States Army and the National Guard, and he was a member of the American Legion.

Michael was employed with Dunn/Mathy Construction, and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union #49.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, East End Boat Harbor, the Buddy Club, St. John Nepomucene Church, and a past member of the Winona Athletic Club.

In his younger days, Michael spent many days on the river, and loved fishing.  He will be remembered for his love of crossword puzzles, gardening, and watching Perry Mason (he knew the ending of every episode by heart).  He was a huge fan of Gene Autry, and he was also an avid fan of the Gophers and the Twins.

Michael is lovingly survived by his wife, Diane; children: Michelle (Jeff) Kohner; Jon (Vickie) Cada; Debra Ware, and Michelle Beech; grandchildren: Jessica Kohner, Colin Cada, Drakkar Ware, Chloe Ware, Zachary Beech, and Mitchell Beech; sister: Mariann (Michael) Matejka; sisters-in-law: Peggy Cada, Pat (Dave) Althoff, and Nancy Berger; brother-in-law: Gerald (Paulette) Drazkowski;  as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Leonard and Helen Drazkowski; sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Vern Spitzer; brother: Gerald Cada; and a granddaughter: Lacey Rose Cada; brother-in-law: J.R. Berger; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: David and Susie Drazkowski.

Honoring Michael’s wishes, there will not be any services held.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to a charity of choice.

Rest in peace, Michael…”Who’s your buddy? Who’s your pal?”
