MATHEW (MAT) M. MAROUSHEK

Mathew (Mat) M. Maroushek, age 49, of Winona, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 5, 2017, following a life-long struggle with autism and a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on November 13, 1967, in Winona, to Benjamin and Janice (Duellman) Maroushek, Jr.  He attended Winona Public Schools and was employed in various positions through ORC’s Career Options program.

Mat’s life was truly a gift to his family and everyone who knew him. Mat touched so many lives with his smile and bright eyes and taught us all about courage and love. Mat’s life was an inspiration for the advancement for alternative care options for people with autism.

Mat is lovingly survived by his parents, Ben and Janice; brother and sisters: Theresa (Clay) Biggerstaff, Timothy (Mari) Maroushek, and Susan (Colin) Maus; nieces and nephews: Zachary, Harrison, Jackson, and Macklin Maroushek; Christopher Biggerstaff; Lauren (Kyle) Motl; and Megan Maus; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his Home and Community Options family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Benjamin and Palma Maroushek, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents: Evelyn and John Kozlowski and Alphonse and Eleanor Duellman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.  The Reverend James Berning will officiate.

Mat will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, from 5 PM until 7 PM, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will also be held in the Commons of St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 11:30 AM until the time of the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Mat’s nieces and nephews.

Mat’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff of Home and Community Options for the excellent and loving care that he received throughout his entire adult life.
