Mary Jo Fitzgerald, age 73, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at her home, following a short battle with cancer.
She was born on August 7, 1947, in Milwaukee, WI, to Melvin and Agnes (Kokott) Wood. Mary Jo was a graduate of Cotter High School and of Winona State University.
She was united in marriage with James Fitzgerald on July 29, 1971, in Winona, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2019.
Mary Jo was employed for many years in the Operations Department of Winona National Bank, until her retirement. She was an active volunteer with Winona Health, Volunteer Services, Meals on Wheels, and also volunteered her time to help those with yearly tax preparations.
She will be remembered as an avid reader, and she especially enjoyed her travels with Jim.
Mary Jo is survived by her step-children: Kevin (Dina) Fitzgerald and Dana (Mike) Christensen; step-grandchildren: Jesse and Jacob Fitzgerald, and Kyle Christensen; sister: Kay (Bruce) Norton; brother: Chris Wood; brother-in-law: Don Fitzgerald; sister-in-law: Pat Cole; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters: Beth Wood and Debra Wood.
Due to current health concerns and restrictions, a family service will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, with Deacon Justin Green officiating. Mary Jo will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau. A celebration of her life is being planned for a future date when we can gather safely.
