Lucille "Bunny" Mahaffey

Lucille C. “Bunny” Mahaffey, age 99, of Minnesota City, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.

She was born on June 27, 1919, in Plentywood, MT, to Waldo and Mary (Wolski) Bandar, and was a graduate of Winona High School.  Bunny was united in marriage with Vernon Mahaffey on September 23, 1944, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona, and he preceded her in death on February 8, 1991.

Bunny and Vernon owned and operated the Keglers Bowling Alley in Winona, and she was employed as the office manager at the Winona Knitting Mills for many years.  In retirement, Bunny enjoyed doing demonstrations at MidTown Foods in the mall, and also spending winters in Florida with Vernon.    She was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City, where she volunteered and served in many capacities, and was the recipient of the Bishop’s Medal for her dedication to the parish.

She will be remembered for her love of reading, trips to the casino, watching the Vikings, and as an avid card player, she enjoyed Shafskopf, 500, and Cribbage.

Bunny is lovingly survived by her children: Denis Mahaffey and Marie (Tim) Kwosek; grandchildren: Cindi Knouft, Brian Knouft, Jenny (Andy) George, Jay (Angel) Mahaffey, Nikki (Cole) Kwosek, and Kendall Hayes; great-grandchildren: Ava and Mila Mahaffey; Max and Vance George; a great-grandson expected in January; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Gary Knouft; son: Gary Mahaffey; granddaughter: Missy Kwosek; sisters: Blanche Gahnz, Marian Stanislawski, and Nellie Nowicki; and a brother: Louis Bandar.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Thursday, December 27, 2018, in the Chapel of Our Lady at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.  The Reverend Robert P. Stamschror will officiate.  Bunny will be laid to rest in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Minnesota City.

Pallbearers will be: Cindi Knouft, Brian Knouft, Jay Mahaffey, Jenny George, Andy George, and Nikki Kwosek.

We have lost a beautiful and amazing woman who was the glue that held our family together.  Bunny was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend, and those who knew and loved her will miss her great sense of humor and her love for life.  We are comforted that you are now safe in heaven with our loved ones, and will be watching over us from above.
