Lowell T. Salo

Lowell T. Salo, age 75, of Winona, formerly of Wanamingo, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, after a twenty-one month journey with cancer.

He was born on November 9, 1947, in Virginia, MN, to Toivo and Muriel (Nikunen) Salo, and was a graduate of Gilbert High School.  He was united in marriage with Patricia Kyllo on August 21, 1971, in Wanamingo, MN.

Lowell honorably served his country with the Army National Guard from 1970 – 1976.  He completed his degree in education at Winona State University, and taught elementary students in Wanamingo and West Concord, MN.  After completing his specialist degree for school administration, Lowell served as an elementary principal in Goodhue, MN, and West Salem, WI, retiring in 2005.

He was a former member of the Lions, Jaycees, and he was active in the churches wherever he lived, most recently with the Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, MN.

Lowell will be remembered for his enjoyment of golfing, reading, lawn mowing, and watching sports of any kind.

Lowell is lovingly survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Stacie (Jared) Kuehl; son-in-law, Michael Moore; granddaughters, Abigail and Lillian Moore; sisters: Sandie (Jack) Cronin and Debbie (Randy) Weiberg; brother: William (Julie) Salo; in-laws: Jeanne Wendschuh, Paulette (Larry) Barnhart, Jim (Cheryl) Kyllo, and Margie Kyllo.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Emily Moore; parents; brother, Charles Salo; and a sister, Pamela Kilpela.

Visitation will be held from 4 PM until a service at 6 PM on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona. 

Visitation will also be held at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, MN, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM.  Pastor Beth Krolak will officiate.

A family burial will be held at a later date at the Minneola Cemetery.
