Lorraine L. Wachs, age 77, of Winona, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Adith Miller Manor in Winona.
Lorraine was born on August 19, 1940, in Winona, to Elmer and Lisette (Koetz) Wachs. Following high school, she went on to earn a Master of Science degree from Winona State in June 1968. During the 1960s, she taught English in Lancaster, WI, Melrose, WI, and Spring Grove, MN. Lorraine returned to Winona in the early 1970s, where she worked for UBC for more than 35 years, retiring in 2006.
She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #141 of Winona and later in Chapter #191 of Pickwick, where she served as a Grand Warder, Worthy Matron, and Worthy Grand Matron. Lorraine was also a long-time member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Winona.
Lorraine will be remembered for her enjoyment of walking and biking around Winona, crocheting, and making counted cross-stitch. She also took many bus trips around the United States and Canada, along with yearly visits to the Minnesota State Fair.
Lorraine is survived by her brother: Eugene (Romona) Wachs, Arcadia, WI; nephew: Robert (Dawn) Wachs, West St. Paul, MN; niece: Julie (John) Schmidt, Onalaska, WI; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Winona. The Reverend Rachel Riggle will officiate.
Lorraine will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 9:30 AM until the funeral service at 10:30 AM.
