Linez "Sue" Urness

Linez S. “Sue” Urness, age 72, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, in her “happy place,” her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was born on September 24, 1948, in Winona, to Al and Loretta (Suchla) Bisek.  She was a graduate of Cotter High School and earned her degree in business from Winona State University.

Sue married Bob Urness on July 27, 1968.  They were married for 52 years, and were the proud parents of Scott, Kari, and Tim.  She was a stay-at-home mom providing daycare until the kids were in school.  She then worked for the Winona school district as a health aid secretary for a number of years.

Sue had many interests and loves.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, crafting, painting, decorating, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  Her enjoyment of traveling took her to London, Paris, Hawaii, Punta Cana, Guatemala, Colorado, Florida, and Mexico.  She always looked forward to the yearly trip to Boyd Lodge in northern Minnesota.  She loved to fish and be near the water, whether it was a lake or an ocean.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Bob; children: Scott (Diana) Urness; Kari (Jason) Foltz; and Tim (Carrie) Urness; grandchildren: Elli, Maddi, Easton, Katie, Christian, Nora, and Gracie; as well as other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws: Ray and June Urness; brother: Louis; and grandson, Sam Foltz.

Honoring Sue’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately for her family, with Father Michael Cronin officiating.  She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Since Sue felt that flowers were best given and enjoyed while she was living, and to best honor her life and memory, her family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to the Winona Food Shelf, or to Winona Health Hospice Services.
