(JOHN) CURTIS MARSH, SR.
(John) Curtis Marsh, Sr., age 78, of Galesville, WI, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side.
He was born on January 31, 1939, in Galesville, to John and Irma (Veto) Marsh, and was a graduate of the Trempealeau High School.
Curtis was united in marriage with Romona Haefel on February 15, 1957, in Iowa, and she preceded him in death on August 24, 1984. He later met LaVonne Meyer, and they were married on September 17, 1986, in Melrose, WI. LaVonne preceded him in death on December 9, 2014.
He was employed with Madison Silo in Winona for 27 years, and in 1972, Curtis began farming in the Galesville area. He was a proud dairy farmer who took great pride in his cattle and how he bred them.
Curtis was a big history buff, and he was especially interested in researching the Marsh family history and genealogy. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed ice fishing, as well as hunting coon, pheasant, and deer.
He liked to keep up on local news by visiting with the neighbors, and reading the local newspapers, his favorite being “Table Chat.” Curtis will also be remembered for his love of Allis-Chalmers tractors, reading farm magazines and western novels, and how he enjoyed a good meal by frequenting the local restaurants.
Curtis is lovingly survived by his children: Cindy (Steve) Meinke, John (Laurie) Marsh, Randy (Dawn) Marsh, Maryann (Eric) Docken, all of Galesville; and Holly (Tom) Budic, Columbia, SC; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Renay (LaVern) Martinson and Arvis George; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, and sister: Arlis Martinson.
Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesville on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM, and again at the church on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM. Pastor Allen Hanson will officiate.
Curtis will be laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Centerville.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Josh Marsh, Adam and Andrew Bolterman, Preston and Tyler Docken, Ashley (Marsh) Waldenberger, and Matt Waldenberger.
