JOHN W. SCHOLMEIER

John W. Scholmeier, age 82, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Lake Winona Manor.

He was born on January 9, 1934, in Winona, to Robert and Gertrude (Blank) Scholmeier. John was a graduate of St. Mary’s University in Winona, and completed his graduate studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee.  John was a professor of Physics at Mankato State for many years, and following retirement, he returned to Winona to lovingly care for his parents.

John was very devoted to his Catholic faith, and as a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart he enjoyed attending Mass.  He was always proud and grateful for the education he received in the Catholic schools.

John is survived by his friends and faith community at the Cathedral.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.  The Reverend Monsignor Richard M. Colletti will officiate.

John will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Monday, March 14, 2016, from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.
