Janet L. McCoy

Janet L. McCoy, age 85, passed away on April 26, 2023, at her home, in Winona, with her family by her side, just hours before her 65^th wedding anniversary. 

Janet was born April 3, 1938, in Ottumwa, IA, and graduated in 1956 from the Ottumwa High School. 

On April 27, 1958, she married the love of her life, Richard McCoy, in Ottumwa, IA.  They were blessed with two sons and a daughter.  They lived in several states before settling in Winona in 1975.  She always said Winona felt like “home” to her.  Janet was very proud that, at the age of 45, she went back to school to become a nurse.  This had always been her lifelong dream.  She worked in the C & R Unit at Community Memorial Hospital until she retired in 2000.  She was an active member of Pleasant Valley Church in Winona where she served the Lord in many areas. 

Janet enjoyed board games, playing cards, and jig-saw puzzles.  She loved her husband, children, grandkids, and great grandkids. 

She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons: John (Deb) McCoy and Chris (Cheryl) McCoy; daughter: Jane (Eric) Thompson; 15 grandchildren: Molly (Brandon) Beal, Becca (Robert) Gas, Ben (Maggie) McCoy, Patrick McCoy, Daniel McCoy, Joshua (Abby) McCoy, Olivia McCoy, Virginia McCoy, Allie (Devon) Krueger, Nick Thompson, Seth (Emily) Thompson, Caleb (Mary Kate) Thompson, Eli Thompson, Grace Thompson, Lily (fiance Max Hill) Thompson and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Pat Wagner. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Marcene Wagner; her brother, Mike Adams; and her sister, Pam Aalbers. 

Visitation will be held at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road in Winona, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 10 AM until the service at 11:30 AM.  Pastor Joe McConkey will officiate.  Janet will be laid to rest in a family ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery.
