Jane M. Starnes

Jane M. Starnes, age 81, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Sauer Health Care in Winona.

She was born on January 4, 1943, in Chicago, IL, to George and Evelyn (Kaiser) Jumbeck. Jane was united in marriage with William Starnes on March 8, 1968, in Waukegan, IL, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1986. Jane received her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Teresa College in Winona.

Throughout her career, Jane was employed with Walt Disney World in Florida, various restaurants as a chef prep, Riverside Electronics, and as the Home Health Coordinator for Winona County. Even in retirement, she continued to keep busy by working various jobs.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City, where she was active with their quilting group. Jane also enjoyed volunteering with the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, swimming with the Silver Sneakers Group at the YMCA, and she was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.

She will be remembered for her love of crafts, artwork, gardening, and music – especially Elvis. She was a loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma who will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Jane is lovingly survived by her children: Dawn (Barry) Ring and Evelyn Klungtvedt; grandchildren: Christopher Klungtvedt, William (Heather) Peterson, Phyllis (Brad) Poole, and Jonathon (Lily) Smith; 9 great-grandchildren with two on-the-way; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her children: Shawn and Cecelia; parents, George and Evelyn; sister, Judith Grotjahn; and nephews, Mark and Ryan Grotjahn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City. Fr. Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 5 PM until 7 PM. Visitation will also be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.

Pallbearers will be: William Peterson, Brian Holter, Brad Poole, Dylan Strelow, and Dan Frankum.

Memorials may be directed to the Winona Arbor Society.
