James E. Stueve

James E. Stueve, age 88, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Sauer Health Care in Winona.

He was born on January 2, 1937, in Winona, to Alvin and Selma (Papenfuss) Stueve, and was united in marriage with Ann Palmer on April 19, 1959, in Peoria, IL.

Jim was employed with the Sunbeam Bakery, and later with Winona Lighting until his retirement.

He will be remembered for his enjoyment of dirt track and NASCAR racing, and especially of old cars and attending car auctions.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Ann; son, Nick (Laurie) Stueve; son-in-law, Jeff Grossell; grandchildren: Kyle Grossell, Matt Grossell, Jonathan (Shannon) Stueve, Scott (Brooke) Stueve, and Michael Stueve; great-grandchildren: Ella, Reece, Laila, Kendall, and Silas; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his children: Richard Stueve and Victoria Grossell; his parents; and siblings: Dan Stueve and Betty Drazkowski.

A gathering to celebrate Jim’s life will be held from 11 AM until noon on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona. A luncheon and reception will be held at the funeral home following the gathering.

Jim will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in a family ceremony at a later date.
