JAMES R. SCHULTZ

James R. Schultz, age 75, of Winona, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016, in the comfort of his home.

He was born on March 23, 1940, in Winona, to Ralph and Lucy (Moody) Schultz.  He was united in marriage with Patricia M. Shugart on August 16, 1962, in Winona.

Jim honorably served his country with the United States Marine Corps, and following his enlistment, he continued to serve with the Army National Guard.  He was actively involved with the Hiawatha Valley Marines, and was a member of the American Legion in Winona.

He was also a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona where he served as an elder; the Winona Masonic Lodge #18 A. F. & A. M.; and he served as a Boy Scout leader with the Gamehaven Council.  Jim was employed for many years as a maintenance engineer at Winona Health.

Jim will be remembered for his love of camping, canoeing, and he especially enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Pat; daughter: Jennifer Mulyck; son: Neil Schultz; grandchildren: Meghan, Morgan, and Evan Mulyck; sister: Dorothy Kantowski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a step-son: Lee Christopherson; son-in-law: Kevin Mulyck; parents; an infant brother, Raymond Schultz; and brothers and sisters: Glennys Risser; Donald Schultz; Ruth Evens-Holte; Earl “Sonny” Schultz; Jack Schultz; and Marilyn Sampson.

A funeral service led by the Winona Masonic Lodge #18 A. F. & A. M., will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  Following the service, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors outside of the funeral home.

Jim will be laid to rest in the Mecklenburg Cemetery, rural Lewiston, in a private family ceremony.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 10 AM until the time of the service.
