James Wendell Payne, 73, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020, with his wife, Eileen, by his side.
Wendell was born in Alexander City, Ala., on September 6, 1946, to Clyde and Omelene, and had two siblings. He enlisted in the Army on June 17, 1967. He met his wife Eileen in Rockford, Ill., in 1972. They were married in Ashland, Ala., on June 9, 1973, and had four boys. Wendell enjoyed traveling and lived in different states throughout his life. One of his favorite places to visit was the Badlands. He spent most of his life working on transmissions which he enjoyed. Most of all, he loved to fish and spend time with his family.
James Wendell is survived by his wife, Eileen Sweeney Payne; sons, Larry (Gloria), Chris (Nicole), James (Valerie), and John; grandchildren, Bradley (Abby), Brandon (Meghan), Alex, Ella, Hunter, Tyler, Marree, and Courtney; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces in Illinois, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Omelene; brother, Wavel; and sister, Brenda.
Due to current health concerns, a celebration of his life will be held for his family.
