James “Jim” Andrew Siefert, age 67, of Winona, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, December 29, 2023.
He was born on May 12, 1956, in Winona, to Andrew and Virginia (Mertes) Siefert. Jim attended Cochrane-Fountain City High School, and then worked for Winona Van Norman until they relocated out of state. He was then employed for over 20 years with DCM of Winona until his death.
Jim married Roberta “Bobbi” Frisch in 1994, and they later divorced in 2002. He met LuAnn Boettcher in 2003, and they married in July of 2012.
From early on, Jim’s passion was classic cars. He and his friends collected, restored, or “souped-up” cars, with the latest he kept was his 1957 Chevy. He enjoyed hunting with his buddies, and successfully taught his son, Chris, “the ropes.” While Jim’s interest in hunting decreased, he eagerly awaited news from Chris about each hunting trip and beamed with pride every time. Jim also enjoyed trout fishing, usually donating his catch to his in-laws, and gardening. He grew a large vegetable garden, and lovingly assisted his wife with planting bulbs and flowers all over the yard.
Despite his “I’m tough,” exterior, anyone that knew him felt his huge and kind heart shining through. He never hesitated to help somebody out when they were down, whether it be family, friend, neighbor, or a homeless vet sitting on the corner! Jim loved animals, caring for two horses, many cats, but especially his beloved boy, “Giz,” who followed him everywhere.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is lovingly survived by his wife, LuAnn; her parents, Jack and Ruby Boettcher; son, Christopher; sisters: Sharon Wicka and Carol Siefert; nieces and nephews: Becky Wicka-Johnson, David Schultz, and Bobbie Wicka; granddaughters: Aubrey Frisch, Morgyn Frisch, and Tessa Mueller-Norby; step-daughters: Jennifer (Hunter) Jonsgaard and Sarah Pruka; 5 step-grandsons; great-nephew: Jeffrey (Amber) Schultz; great-niece: Justine Schultz; as well as other relatives and many loyal friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the funeral service at 1 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona. Jim will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Christopher Frisch, David Schultz, Jeffrey Schultz, Helmuth Serjogins, Mike Svobodny, and Richard Bohlinger.
