IRWIN W. ROSE

Irwin W. Rose, age 86, of Winona, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Winona Health.

He was born on January 12, 1930, in Winona, to Earl and Veronica (Burbach) Rose.  He was united in marriage with Shirley Krautwurn on February 21, 1949, in Fountain City, WI, and she preceded him in death on October 27, 2001.

He was employed for many years as a journeyman carpenter, until his retirement. After retiring, Irwin worked as a stocker at the Winona Target store.

Irwin will be remembered for his enjoyment of the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping.  He also enjoyed going to stock car races, and he had perfect attendance and never missed a game for the many years he was on his bowling league.  Irwin was a member of Westfield golf club, and as an avid golfer, he was proud that he made a hole-in-one twice.  He was also a member of the Eagles Club, and was an honorary member of the VFW and American Legion where he enjoyed volunteering for fundraisers and participating with their honor guards.

Irwin was a long-time active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, and he had a deep devotion to his faith and daily prayer. His kind heart and ability to be a good listener, as well as his outgoing and friendly personality made him well loved by anyone he met.  He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him best, especially his children and grandchildren.

Irwin is lovingly survived by his children: Terry James; Scott Rose; Nick Rose; Tammy (Bob) Barth; and Lorrie (Rob Ellinghuysen) Rinn; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings: Mary Ann (Art) Orlikowski; Jean Jonsgaard; Robert (Sandy) Rose; David (Sue) Rose; Grace (Jack) Lindaas; and Glen (Dixie) Rose; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sons, Rick and Randy; daughter-in-law: Linda; parents; and a brother, Everett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.  The Reverend James Berning will officiate.

Irwin will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the Commons of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 10:30 AM until the time of the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Irwin’s grandsons: Mike Rose, Rick Rose, Conner Ellinghuysen, Robbie Puterbaugh, Charlie Puterbaugh, and Jason Rose.

It is respectfully requested that memorials be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
