Gary V. Barum

Gary V. Barum, age 76, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Gundersen Health System Hospital in La Crosse.

He was born on October 5, 1947, in Winona, to Carl and Leona (Pappenfuss) Barum.  Gary was a graduate of Winona Senior High School and attended Winona State University.  Gary was united in marriage with Suzanne Laak, and they later divorced.

He was employed for many years as a technician at Watlow in Winona, and he was a member of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

Gary will be remembered for his enjoyment of playing cards, deer hunting, trap shooting, and he was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings.  He had an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoyed pursuing several different opportunities over the years.  Gary’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he especially cherished his children and grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him the most. 

Gary is lovingly survived by his children: Cindy (Bruce) Finke, and Garek (Tracy) Barum; grandchildren: Madison Finke, Meghan (Brandon) Olson, Garrison (Natalie) Barum, and Grayden Barum; siblings: Cork (Andrea) Barum, Shirley (Joe) Kamrowski, Donna Ernst, and Dave Barum; a sister-in-law: Barb Barum; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert; sister and brother-in-law: Delores and Duane Bradt; brother: Alan Barum; brother-in-law: Alan Ernst; and nephews: Steve Ernst and Carl Barum.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.  The Reverend Kyle Lewis will officiate.  Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Houston, MN.
