Fred J. Brust, Jr., age 91, of Minnesota City, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at his home.
He was born on November 3, 1932, in Winona, to Fred and Irene (Gerth) Brust, Sr. Fred was united in marriage with Jean Leininger on April 6, 1957, in Winona, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2020.
He honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and he was employed for many years with Cenex prior to his retirement.
Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He will be remembered as a kind man, who always put his family first, cherishing the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Fred’s appreciation for the simpler things in life can be summed up in a quote that he lived by and often shared with others, “One day at a time.” He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Fred is lovingly survived by his children: Deb (Randy) Sobeck, and Jeff (Mary Sue) Brust; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: James Brust and Kirk Brust; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings: Dick Brust, Pat Tamble, and Marilyn Johnson.
According to his wishes, funeral services will be held privately for his family. Fred will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.
