FLORENCE K. GRUPA

Florence K. Grupa, age 97, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

She was born on January 15, 1920, in South Milwaukee, WI, to Adam and Florence (Olszewski) Kubel, and attended South Milwaukee High School. Florence married Lucian S. Grupa on April 27, 1946, and they moved to Lucian’s hometown of Winona, Minnesota.  A devoted wife and mother, Florence was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, Harvest House, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Athletic Club.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings.   She is survived by daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Woychek; son, Jim (Linda) Grupa; daughter, Susan (Richard) Carter; grandsons:  David and Michael Woychek; honorary daughter, Ann Watkowski; sister, Phyllis Warner, and sister-in-law Irene Curran.

Florence’s quiet strength and welcoming spirit will forever be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.  The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate. Florence will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be considered to the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, or to a favorite charity.
