EVELYN VERNA GLENDE

Evelyn Verna Glende, age 99, of Winona, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.

She was born on December 4, 1917, in Bethany, MN, the third of the five children of John and Helen (Treder) Wamhoff.  Evelyn graduated from Lewiston High School in 1934, and went on to earn her teaching degree from Winona State in 1938.

Evelyn was united in marriage with Milton Glende on April 5, 1942, on the Wamhoff Family Farm in Elgin, MN.  Milton preceded her in death in 1979.

She taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Oak Ridge, Winona County, until her marriage.  After raising her family, she resumed teaching in 1964, and taught in the Winona area, including Minnesota City, for another 10 years.

Evelyn was a member of the Winona Park Rec Squares Square Dance Club, and enjoyed her card club at Westfield Golf Course. She loved to crochet and made many treasures for her family and friends over the years.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Janice (Ken) Hatch, Sunol, CA; Keith (Colleen) Glende, Battleground, WA; daughter-in-law: Selma Glende, Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law: Colin Horsfall, Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; husband, Milton; sons, Roger and Michael Glende; daughters, Mary Lynn Kruger and Judy Horsfall; daughter-in-law, Ginny Glende; and a great-grandson Andrew James Kruger.

Private family funeral services are being held. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
