Elizabeth "Betty" L. Spalding

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Spalding, age 75, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023, in the comfort of her home.

She was born on March 15, 1948, in La Crosse, WI, to Dominic and Helen (Tillman) Therring, and was a graduate of the Cochrane-Fountain City High School.  Betty was united in marriage with Roger D. Spalding on June 27, 1970, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, WI. 

Betty was employed for 51 years at the C & R Unit and Lake Winona Manor with Winona Health as a CNA, and later as a Health Unit Coordinator until her retirement.  She was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

She will be remembered for her love of gardening, motorcycle rides with Roger, eating out at Olive Garden and Cracker Barrel, and spending time with her friends.  Betty’s greatest joy in life was her family, and she especially cherished her grandchildren and attending all of their activities.  She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her the most.

Betty is lovingly survived by her husband, Roger; children: Scott (Jenny) Spalding and Tim (Diane) Spalding; grandchildren: Zane, Taylor, Dylan, Ryan, Averi, Josh, and Michael; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Therring and Debbie (Mike) Wise; brother-in-law: Robert Spalding; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Robert Therring; sister and brother-in-law: Rita and Vilas Helwig; and a brother-in-law: Raymond Spalding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Winona.  The Very Reverend Mark C. McNea will officiate.

A family burial will be held at Bush Cemetery in Ridgeway, MN.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2 PM until 5 PM, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:30 PM, followed by a time of sharing.  Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 10 AM until the time of the Mass.

The family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to the Winona Health Foundation.
