EDNA S. BURFEIND
Edna Sophia Bertha Burfeind, age 97, of Winona, and formerly of Lewiston, MN, joined the Church Triumphant, and entered into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 4, 2016. She had been a resident of Sauer Health Care in Winona for the last several years.
Edna was born on the family farm in Utica Township, Winona County, on March 23, 1919, to Henry and Hattie (Beilke) Burfeind.
She was employed with Waters Conley. the Kahler Hotel, and Home Bakery, all in Rochester, MN, and she later worked for Camera Art in Lewiston until her retirement.
Edna was a devoted Christian woman, who had a deep love and trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel (Silo) Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lewiston, where she was a life-long member. Just two days before the Lord called her home, Edna received the precious gift of the Lord’s body and blood in Holy Communion, and was able to depart this life comforted with the assurance of His love and forgiveness for all of her sins.
Edna is survived by her nieces: Arline (James) Volkmann, Winona; Sandra (David) Murray, Blue Earth, MN; and Veda Stellwagen, Oostburg, WI; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families; cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Arnold (Ruth) Burfeind; Martin (Sophie) Burfeind; and Victor Burfeind; sisters: Mildred Burfeind and Helen (Erwin) Stellwagen; and a nephew: Rev. Robert Stellwagen.
A service of worship and thanksgiving, unto the glory of God alone, to celebrate the gifts of life and salvation bestowed by God upon Edna, will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 19, 2016, at Immanuel (Silo) Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lewiston. The Reverend William Meilner will officiate.
Edna will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, where her earthly remains will await the day of resurrection.
Visitation will be held at Immanuel (Silo) Evangelical Lutheran Church, on Monday, December 19, 2016, from 10 AM until the time of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Daniel Murray, Sarah Murray, Sharon Stellwagen, David Volkmann, Rachel Wilson, Christopher Volkmann, and Kalene Volkmann.
In lieu of flowers, it is respectfully suggested that memorials be considered to Immanuel (Silo) Evangelical Lutheran Church or School.
Edna’s family would like to extend their appreciation to those who cared for Edna, especially during her last days. We wish to acknowledge the staffs of Sauer Health Care and St. Croix Hospice for the loving care which they gave to her physical and medical needs. We would also like to thank Pastor Meilner, her friends from Immanuel (Silo), and to the shut-in ministry of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona, for the care which they gave to her spiritual needs.
