DOROTHY E. MAHLKE

Dorothy E. Mahlke, age 95, of Winona, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Sauer Health Care.

She was born on May 5, 1922, in Chatfield, MN, to George and Nora (Bicknese) Vehrenkamp.  After graduation from the Chatfield high School in 1940, Dorothy honorably served her country with the United States Navy WAVES during World War II.  After her service, Dorothy returned to Winona, where she attended Winona State University, graduating in 1952.

Dorothy was united in marriage with Robert Mahlke on October 25, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chatfield, MN, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2006.

She was a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona, where she helped with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Girl Pioneers.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Peter (Susan) Mahlke, and their three children: Kate, Valerie and Eve; her brothers: Lloyd (Carol) Vehrenkamp and Melvin (Darlene) Vehrenkamp; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters: Arlene Anderson and Serena Burt.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until a prayer service at 11:30 AM on Friday, September 29, 2017, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  The Reverend Karl Gurgel will officiate.  Following the service, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors at the funeral home.

Private burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
