DONALD J. BERG

Donald J. Berg, age 73, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home, with the support of hospice care, following a 5 ½ year battle with cancer.

He was born on December 25, 1943, in Winona, to Joseph and Evelyn (Fort) Berg.  Don was united in marriage with Jeanette Malewicki on April 24, 1965, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.

Prior to his retirement, Don was employed for over 20 years with Cytec-Fiberite in Winona.

He was a long-time active parishioner of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka where he served as an usher, helped with decorating for the holidays, coordinated the giving tree, and he was also a server for funerals.  He will be remembered for his love of golfing, trips to Wal-Mart, and the way that he always looked out for everyone else.  Don was especially proud of his home and yard, and meticulously mowed and trimmed the lawn three times a week.

Don is lovingly survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanette; daughter, Tammy; son, Cary (Kristine); 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters: Jean (Bonnie) Barnholtz, Marlene Benck, Marie Grinde, and Maxine Fawcett; brothers: Pat Berg and Bradley Berg; his in-laws and extended family with the Malewickis; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Kevin and Darin; his parents; and a brother, Randy.

Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Thursday, June 29, 2017, from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.  The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Don will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that memorials be directed to the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, or to the Hidden Valley Fire and Rescue.
