DOLORES E. SCHILLER
Dolores E. Schiller, age 91, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Lake Winona Manor.
She was born on February 16, 1926, in Winona, to Emil and Margaret (Niemczyk) Schiller. Following high school, Dolores attended the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, where she became a registered nurse. She furthered her education at the University of Minnesota by obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, and a Masters degree in Nursing Administration.
Dolores was employed as a Registered Nurse, and was also a member of the faculty of the Nursing Department at Winona State University. Together with her colleagues, Rosalie Burton and Dorothy Haggerty, Dolores was instrumental in developing the nursing program at Winona State.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, the American Nurses Association, and the Winona State University Retiree Association.
Dolores will be remembered for her love of reading, collecting antiques and dolls, and as an animal lover, she had many beloved cats and dogs over the years.
Dolores is survived by her sister: Helen (John) Sutton; nieces and nephews: Paul Schwier; Dale, Neil, and Mark Sutton; Jim Triemart; Joan Cook, Joan Bowman, Patty Everhart, Barbara Meyer, and Sharon Schroeder; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Dolores was also blessed with many dear friends which include Jean Gardner, Richard Braithwaite, Phyllis Dunn, Doris Randall, Mary Cady, Bob and Joyce Wilson, and Florence Hollingsworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Marie Baker, Rose Trimert, Margaret Schwier, and Josephine Everhart; brothers: Marvin Schiller, Ray J. Werra, and Richard “Mike” Werra; and nephews: Bob Wera, Richard Triemert, Fred Schwier and Jim Schwier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 2, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona. The Reverend James Berning will officiate.
Dolores will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass on Friday in the Commons of St. Mary’s Church.
