David D. Husman

David D. Husman, age 86, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona.

He was born on December 12, 1936, in Winona, MN, to William and Rose (Buege) Husman.  David honorably served his country with the United States Army from 1959 to 1962.

David was united in marriage with Deanna Burdick on April 3, 1965, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, MN. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona.

He was employed with Madison Silo, Modern Ready Mix, and he also drove milk truck.  His longest employment was with the Winona School District as a custodian, and he was also the long-time custodian and sexton for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winona.  Even in retirement, David kept busy driving cars for Chrysler Winona and Sugar Loaf Ford, and he enjoyed delivering papers for the Winona Daily News, Winona Post, and he subbed delivering papers for the Rochester Post-Bulletin.

David worked hard, but he also enjoyed life.  He and Deanna enjoyed camping for many years - they were permanent campers at the Pla-Mor Campground, were camp host and hostess at the O.L. Kipp State Park, and they were able to visit every State Park in Minnesota.

David will be remembered for his quick wit, and his enjoyment of snowmobiling, collecting ball caps, and working with stained glass.  David was proud of the family homestead in Stockton, where he built all of the buildings on the property.  His greatest joy in life was his family, and he especially cherished the time that he spent with his children and grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.

David is lovingly survived by his wife, Deanna; children: Delmer (Pam) Husman, and DeeDee (Jim) Pingry; grandchildren: Jacob (Maddie), Joshua, and Emma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and all his siblings: Helen, Linda, Kenneth, Steve, and Don.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.  The Reverend Wade Turner will officiate.  Following the service, military honors will be provided outside the funeral home by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona.  David will be laid to rest in the Pickwick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to a charity of choice.
