Dan Sersha

Dan John “Shot Gun” Sersha, age 64, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2016, at his home.

Dan was born on August 1, 1952, in Virginia, MN, to William and Beryl (Johansen) Sersha.  He graduated in 1970 from the Cook High School in Cook, MN, and continued his education at the Mesabi Junior College in Virginia, MN, and completed his education at Winona State University in Winona.

Dan was employed for many years as an independent trucker with North American Van Lines, and he then went on to work for Ashley Furniture in Arcadia, WI, eventually becoming their transportation director.  In his retirement, he enjoyed owning and operating DJ’s Surplus – General Store in Winona.

Together with his life partner, Jean Butrimas, Dan enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.  In his earlier years, some of his favorite pastimes included golfing and fishing, and he always looked forward to spending time with his family on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota.  Dan was a real people-person, and he especially enjoyed his many customers he met at the store, and was proud of having over 1,000 friends on Facebook.

Dan is lovingly survived by his father and mother, William and Beryl Sersha, Virginia, MN; brother: Roger (Juanita) Sersha, Cook, MN; niece: Rochelle Bristol; nephew: Rodney (Shanda) Anderson; as well as many other special family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his life partner, Jean Butrimas.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 10 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11 AM.  The Reverend Wade E. Davick will officiate.

A memorial service and burial is also being planned in the spring for his family and friends in northern Minnesota.
