Conrad "Connie" Brom

April 16, 1923 — May 24, 2018

Conrad "Connie" Brom

Conrad B. “Connie” Brom, age 95, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare upon suffering a stroke. Connie was a very proud and independent man, who enjoyed living in the home he had shared with his wife Jenny. He lived life on his terms and enjoyed every minute with friends and family. The stoke occurred on May 19th, and true to form, Dad didn’t want to linger.

He was born on April 16, 1923, in Pine Creek, WI, to John and Frances (Berzinski) Brom, and was a graduate of Cotter High School in Winona.  Connie was united in marriage with Genevieve “Jenny” Kowalsky on October 1, 1947, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2011.

Connie was employed with Swifts, Kramer and Toy Plumbing and Heating, and with Warner and Swasey/Badger Construction until his retirement.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona. As an avid sports fan, Connie enjoyed bowling well into his 80s. He was a devoted Twins and Vikings fan along with Gopher Basketball; while you never heard him raise his voice otherwise – you’d find him yelling at the TV when they were losing or not listening to his coaching advice!

He will be remembered for how meticulously he kept his home and yard; especially his beautiful flowers and beloved roses, he took much pride in his manicured lawn.  He loved decorating for the holidays, and Christmas was his favorite so he’d go all out on lighting – continuing to climb onto the roof in his 80’s to “do it up right.”  Connie was an all-around “Mr. Fix-It” and handyman, and his toolbox was always willing to travel to help anyone in need.

Connie had the patience of a saint, and the sweet, caring, and loving way he had about himself will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.

Connie is lovingly survived by his daughter, Lynn (Rick) Brom-Kuusisto, grandpuppy Keegan, and special lady-friend Jean Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and all of his brothers and sisters: Benjamin, Richard, Theodore, Isadore, Cyril, Clarence, Alvin, and Roy Brom; Florence Hohfeld, and Monica Sobota.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM, with the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 6:30 PM, on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.  The Reverend James Berning will officiate.  Connie will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Lunch will be served in the church hall following the burial.
