BETTY J. THRUNE

Betty J. Thrune, age 88, of Winona, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Lake Winona Manor.

She was born on June 15, 1928, in Winona, to Grant and Ethel (Pittelko) Stuck.  She was a graduate of Winona High School, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from Winona State Teachers College in 1950.  On August 21, 1950, she was united in marriage with Raphael J. “Ray” Thrune, at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Winona.  Ray preceded her in death on April 22, 2011.

Betty was an avid bowler for many years.  She was a member of the Winona Women’s Bowling Association, where she served as the secretary, vice-president, and president; was a member of its 600 Club; and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1985. Betty greatly enjoyed researching family genealogy, and spending summers at the cottage on Winnebago Island along the Mississippi River, boating, fishing and spending time with her children and their families.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona, and worked with the hot lunch programs at the Cathedral, and later at St. Stan’s where she was the head cook.

Betty is survived by her children: Nicholas (Pamela) Thrune, Woodbury, MN, Anthony (Angelia) Thrune, Prairie du Sac, WI, and Ann (Perry) Christensen, Owatonna, MN; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Hale (Lawrence Nystrom), Debi (Shannon) Siedenburg, Matthew, Bradley and Elizabeth Christensen, and Tyler, Aimee and Jason Thrune; 3 great-grandchildren, Ava and Gavin Siedenburg, and Hazel Hale-Nystrom; daughter-in-law, Patricia Soukup; sister: Alice (Bob) Stevens; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Patrick; and a brother, Raymond Stuck.

Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. The Reverend Mark C. McNea will officiate.  Betty will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Betty’s grandchildren.
