AUGUST P. "GUS" VERDICK
August P. (Gus) Verdick, age 68, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at his home.
He was born on July 31, 1948, in Winona, to Harry and Adeline (Lafka) Verdick, Sr. He honorably served his country with the United States Army. Gus married Patricia Butenhoff on April 7, 1973, in Winona.
Gus was employed for many years with Badger Equipment, and he also worked for Boelter Industries and Culvers.
In his earlier years, he was a pitcher and enjoyed playing baseball. He will be remembered for his love of bowling, and his trips to the casino.
Gus is lovingly survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Mel; brothers and sisters: Judy Disher; Shirley (Jerry) Carter; John Verdick; Charlotte (Philip) Bronk; and Robert (Donna) Verdick; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Patty Verdick; Ed (Nora) Butenhoff; Bob (Joanne) Butenhoff; Albert (Jackie) Butenhoff; Jerry Butenhoff; Delores (Don) Wittenberg; and Theresa (Bernie) Siebenhaler; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry; brother-in-law: Dale Disher; and sisters-in-law: Mary Van Riper and Sherry Verdick
Visitation will be held at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Winona on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 10 AM until the funeral services at 12 Noon. The Reverend James Berning will officiate.
Following the service, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors outside of the church.
Gus will be dearly missed by his wife and daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
