Arlis M. Ellinghuysen

Arlis Merle (Gross) Ellinghuysen, 89, of Lewiston, MN, passed away quietly at her home on February 4, 2025, surrounded by family as she went to her Heavenly home. 

Arlis was born on November 8, 1935, to Albion “Otis” Gross and Merle (Harvey) Gross in Pickwick, MN. She married Edward “Eddie” Ellinghuysen on March 26, 1955, in Winona.

Arlis is survived by her six children: Richard (Pam), Omaha, NE; Sherrie, Rochester, MN; Faith, Carrollton, TX; Holly (Nathan) Fredrickson, Sioux Falls, SD; Vicki (Joe) Wineski and Devin (Kristin) both of Winona, MN; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Ellinghuysen; her parents; brothers: James and David; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Ellinghuysen.

Arlis worked at the old Winona General Hospital as a nurse before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewiston, where she assisted with the monthly church mailings, and helped over the lunch hour at their school. She was also a member of the area Cancer Support Group, where she held the role of secretary/treasurer for several years, and she enjoyed being part of the local Red Hats Society.

Visitation will be held at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston, MN, on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 2 PM until 5 PM, and again at the church on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Pastor Peter Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Richard Ellinghuysen, Devin Ellinghuysen, Nathan Fredrickson, Joe Wineski, Alex Ellinghuysen, Aric Ellinghuysen, and Russ Buege.

Memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Church cemetery care account, Lewiston Area Cancer Support Group, and St. Croix Hospice.
