ANDREW W. SIEFERT
Andrew W. Siefert, age 100, of Bluff Siding, WI, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016, at Lake Winona Manor, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 26, 1916, to Andrew and Josephine (Lisowski) Siefert, and was raised in North Creek, WI. Andrew honorably served his country with the United States Army during World War II in several European campaigns. He was a member of the American Legion Post 56 in Fountain City, WI, and also of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.
Andrew was united in marriage with Virginia Mertes on April 8, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winona. Andrew and Virginia built their new home on the Mertes family homestead in Bluff Siding. Virginia preceded him in death on February 25, 1997.
Andrew was employed driving dump truck; working for 21 years as the torch man at the Sam Wiseman Junkyard and Scrap; and he also worked for many years at Warner and Swasey/Badger Construction until his retirement. Together with his wife, Virginia, they owned and operated the Club 88 Tavern in Cream, WI.
He enjoyed working on car motors, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and tinkering with his tractor. He was very proud, and loved every one of his new Ford pickups that he bought at Sugar Loaf Ford. Andrew will be remembered for his kindness, spunk, and tough love.
Andrew is survived by his children: James (LuAnn) Siefert, Winona; Sharon Wicka, Winona; and Carol Siefert, Bluff Siding, WI; grandchildren: David Schultz, Becky and Bobbie Jo Wicka, and Chris Frisch; great-grandchildren: Jeffrey and Justine Schultz; brother: Alosyzy (Janice) Saverynski; sisters-in-law: Florence Kupietz, Pine Creek, WI; and Patricia Hund, Cochrane, WI; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives , and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters: Gertie and Josephine; and a brother, Pete.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 PM on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street, Winona. The Reverend Jonathan Fasnacht will officiate.
Andrew will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military honors.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 4 PM until 7 PM, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 1 PM until the time of the Mass.
Pallbearers will be: David Schultz, Jeffrey Schultz, Chris Frisch, Peter Saverynski, Mike Svobodny, and Jerry Benedict.
It is respectfully suggested that memorials be directed to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Andrew’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Winona Health and Lake Winona Manor for the excellent and loving care that he received.
